Students work in precious metals and gemstones. They are encouraged to make items of jewellery to their own design as then they have a practical purpose, as personal items of jewellery or gifts for loved ones etc.

By demonstrating the skills required to make pieces of jewellery the student will learn to work safely within the workshop environment. They will have gained a commercial awareness, an understanding of aesthetics and design and an ability to design and create practical jewellery.

Maximum students: 12

Daytime: Thursday 10.30-1.30pm

Evenings: Tuesday and Wednesday 6.30-9.30pm

Holidays: Similar to local school holidays. Summer: mid-July to September.

Materials: Metals and gemstones may be bought via the workshop.

Clothing: Protective equipment and cotton lab coats are provided. We recommend jeans and sturdy shoes.

Qualifications: Applicants must have attended a beginner's course or have some proven experience of jewellery making.

Fees: Seven pounds per hour, two (7-9pm) or three hours. Payable six weeks in advance.

Refreshments: Tea, coffee and soft drinks are always available
